In the decade between 1966 and 1976, Danish doctors forcibly inserted 4,500 intrauterine devices (IUDs) into Greenlandic girls and women without their consent. These procedures were part of a population control programme disguised as routine school check-ups on girls starting at age 13. Uncovering an Iceberg investigates the orchestrated magnitude of this campaign. The essayistic documentary reveals the mechanisms that kept these nefarious policies hidden from the public. Obtaining exclusive archival access from Denmark, Greenland, and the United States, accounts from people subjected to the programme, interviews with journalists, lawyers, doctors, and medical staff, the project presents evidence of a worldwide campaign of forced contraception targeting minority women through International Planned Parenthood.
