The project was initiated by general material curiosity, and the wish to replace typical materials with more capable alternatives, for neglected products in my environment


The texture and tactility plays a seemingly small role in known iterations of the lifebuoy, and therefore it was essential for me to explore the possibilities




The idea - and the optimization of the materials in the lifebuoy, are about having a transitional shape, so that when you throw it, it transitions from an american football alike shape and into a lifebuoy as you know it. It contains a co2 canister so it's able to inflate when in contact with surface


The materials in the lifebuoys' surface is made of PVC rubber (it retains the air better than existing alternatives), neoprene elements to prevent slipping and enhancing grip ability (also for preventing chaffing and offer heat protection)
